Summer Reading Books For Kids

This week marks the official start of summer, which also means school is out for the kids. Our family is looking forward to A much-deserved summer break, but while time away from school is filled with late nights and endless summer fun, studies have shown that children lose a month of reading during their summer vacation. I get it out of sight, out of mind, but I believe there are various fun and engaging ways to incorporate learning into your child’s during the summer. Picnic and read day at the park, safe trips to the library or bookstore and let them pick out their favorite books that would continue to spark their imaginations. Reading is an excellent way for kids to learn new things about the world as they grow through those summer months. Thankfully, Aiden and Tyler love reading; They have been working hard throughout remote learning. My goal for them is to continue reading while having fun to prevent ‘summer slide.

I hope these books bring your home as much joy as they do mine.

1. The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind

It is about a young schoolboy name Williams who is seeking to save his village from the drought. He later creates a life-changing invention that would inspire you to never give up on your dreams. This book teaches curiosity and how we should never stop learning.

2. Dog Dairies A Middle School Story

This is the first book in a spin-off of the series; the story is told from the dog named Junior's perspective, which adds fun and shows a message of friendships and learning from your mistakes.

3. One And Only Ivan

A Bestselling book Novel, and is part of Aiden’s summer reading. The story is inspired by a real silverback gorilla named Ivan, who lives at a mall and is a friend with an elephant named Stella who is sick and in pain. This story teaches about friendship, courage, and hope. I personally really like this one am happy Aiden got a chance to read it on his own.

4. Mia Mayhem Is A Superhero

If you are looking for a fun book to read to your young kids or for your kids to read independently, this is great. This book is about Mia is an eight-year-old girl who is fun and down to earth. This book is a lighthearted read that is pack with a lot of positive messages of bravery and diversity!

7. Unusual Chicken For Exceptional Poultry Farmer

Sophie is a city girl who moved to a farm inherited from her great-uncle. Although it may not be Sophie's first choice, it would help with her family's financial situation. It is a great, fun book even as it deals with more serious issues like moving and losing a loved one.

8. Magic Trash A Story Of Tyree Guyton And His Art

9. Big Nate In A Class By Himself

My boys are into graphic novels; in this series, Nate is trying to make a fortune from a fortune cookie come through but can’t seem to stay out of trouble. This book is hilarious, and I’m sure most middle schoolers can relate to it.
