Kids Rock Climbing Safely
Hello, World!
Recently, I took Aiden to do one of his favorite things here in NYC, rock climb. I research covid-19 protocols and found Brooklyn Boulders to be a safe space for a fun couple of hours. This was our first indoor activity since the pandemic started last February. Let’s face it, the recent pandemic has taken a toll on all of us. We were not prepared for the mental impact that it has caused, thus far. As parents, we are all trying to figure out ways to adjust and maintain some sort of normalcy for our kids’ mental health and well being. Even though kids are resilient, it is also known that they thrive on social interactions and activities.
For the most part, my kids understand why we have to keep ourselves and others safe. But they’ve also expressed how much they miss their teachers, friends and all things outside. Brooklyn Boulders made it easy for us to have fun safely. In light of the pandemic, we were only allowed to book 90 minutes of rock climbing, as opposed to the past, where you were permitted to buy a day pass for rock climbing and yoga. When we arrived our temperatures were taken, guidelines were reviewed to ensure social distancing was practiced. We had to wear our masks at all times and there were hand sanitizers available everywhere. All of this was a positive sign of a good time with my little adventurer.
I was impressed with Brooklyn Boulders for transitioning from loose chalk to liquid climbing chalk. Making our experience even more safe and enjoyable. These were found at the front table on entry. Chalk dispensers were also found throughout the area. I also sprayed our rock climbing shoes and harnesses with alcohol sanitizer that I brought from home before using.
We had a great time climbing. If you are looking for something fun but safe to do with your kids, I’d recommend rock climbing. Next month is going to be one year since my kids have been doing remote learning. For me, it’s all about helping them cope and safely enjoy activities any way they can. Here is to raising happy, wholesome humans who would one day contribute to making this world a better place.
