Best Of Lake George NY

Hello, World!

All opinions in this post are my own!

Let’s talk about Lake George! a place that I love to visit with my family. There isn’t any best answer for the perfect time to visit Lake George because each season provides a different experience. My first trip to Lake Geroge was with my husband in the early months of us dating back in ‘09. We decided to escape from the city for a bit during the winter months. I remember saying to myself, I don’t do good with cold weather; why am I going to Upstate, NY.? It turned out that our weekend together there was truly magical. The atmosphere was cozy, and we did various activities included sledding and tubing.

Fast forward to us having our boys; we knew we had to take them to Lake George during the summer months. It was the best decision; because our boys still talk about our trips there and all the fun they had. Given the current climate of things with covid 19, some families may be a bit apprehensive about flying right now. A road trip this summer is a chance to escape the busy life we live and recharge. It is also a way to connect and bond as a family. I could cry writing about lake George; it has now become one of our family's most treasured places to visit.

Lake George, NY, is a small town located in the Adirondack upstate New York. The drive from NYC to Lake Geroge is about three and a half hours long, depending on the traffic. Yes, this might seemed long, but the scenery and farms are a beautiful distraction along the way. The town of Lake George is nestled around Lake George Lake, giving visitors access to tons of water activities during the months of summer. I couldn’t get enough of all the local festivals. It added such charm to the town.

Though we haven’t been back to Lake George in over two years, I still feel compelled to share our last experience because our family had such a fantastic time there. And I’m looking forward to making many more memories with my boys. Getting away from the city is good for the soul, peacefulness, and clarity.

On our last visit to Lake Geroge, NY, our family spent six days at Scotty Lakeside Resort during July. From the time we pulled into the entry we knew it was special. The resort is family-friendly with lots of activities. A private beach (Lake), pool, water play area, playground, arcade, ping-pong, beach games. There are also paddleboats, kayaks, other rentals, a fire pit, and a cafe. Of course, the boys couldn't wait to jump into the pool.

The one downside is the cafe doesn’t have dinner options on its menu and closes early. We didn’t mind because that gave us a reason to walk into town ( like 10 mins) to try different restaurants, and enjoy the Town at night. On other occasions, we ordered delivery service from Giuseppe’s restaurant, I personally couldn’t get enough of their spaghetti and butter. Weird I know but it was so good. The cafe, however, did have a lovely breakfast and lunch menu, which we enjoyed on the days we lazed around the pool area or lake.

Taking early morning walks to get coffee and sit by the lake was my favorite part. The air felt great, leaving me in quietness with my thoughts.

Lake George is full of adventures and activities. You can venture out to the great escape and hurricane harbor, do horseback riding, hiking, and more. I wanted to try parasailing, but I was too chicken ( haha) to do it alone. On my next visit, I am going to talk myself into doing it. Lake George has some amazing views to lay back and sit and enjoy the lake if you're not into all the activities. The town of Lake George is so quaint they were fairs and fireworks every Thursday night during the summer. I would even say no visit to Lake George is complete without a boat cruise on the lake. We enjoyed the view from the water. The Lake George Steamboat Company also cruises during Thursday night fireworks giving the most spectacular view!

On one of our walks to town, we found the library, which the boys loved and had to check out. visiting the Anoradak is exceptional, it reminds me of my birth country Grenada, the people are friendly and enjoy a slower pace to life. And it didn’t hurt waking up to absolute stillness. I would say visit Lake George at some point. It is the ideal destination for family, couple, or group road trips for a quick getaway to unwind with nature.

Let me know if you have ever visited Lake George or if you are planning on taking a trip there?
