Valentine’s With My Little Valentines

Before the pandemic, the kids loved handing out Valentine's gifts to their classmates. We usually put together some really sweet gift bags. This year we celebrated V. Day a bit differently. With school being remote, I didn’t venture out seeking all things arts & crafts for them or their thirty-plus classmates. However, the mommy in me still wanted to make their day special.

Valentine’s Day has always been about the kids in our home. Mostly, because Orin’s birthday is the following day, and that’s a bigger deal in my opinion for him and I to celebrate together. We do enjoy showering the kids with extra love and hugs on V.Day as we spend time as a family.

I decided last minute to head out to my favorite store Target, big surprise. Target didn’t have anything on their shelves as it relates to Valentines’. Depressing right? Apparently, if you need heart shape cookie cutter or other fun things for Valentine’s Day you would need to get them as early as January. (Note to myself ).

On the bright side if you’re looking to get an early start for Easter, guess what? yup, Target is already stocked. Without a heart shape cutter, I had to rethink my breakfast surprise of blueberry heart pancakes.

I settled on a “Caribbean style” breakfast bake, and saltfish, (not pictured) which was so good. The kids had theirs with sausages and fruits. And of course hubby and I had our daily coffee.

I followed up with a simple tacos lunch, the kids enjoyed lunch way more than breakfast. I committed the ultimate sin, by not introducing Caribbean food into their lives earlier. It’s such a disappointment that they don’t have a palette for Grenadian and other Caribbean Island dishes.

Even though the kids didn’t get a valentine's gift bag this year, they were happy with the fun treats, cookies, pretzels, and lollipops. I’m sure this is the best part for most kids and even adults. They also had a blast playing a game of Valentine’s word scramble. It was a good quarantine Valentines.
